Helmsley Charitable Trust Military Sciences Medical Education Fellowships — Arizona

The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust awards grants to health-related institutions creating stronger, healthier futures for individuals and communities. Since 2018, Mayo Clinic in Arizona has been awarded annual grants supporting Mayo Clinic's Military Medicine Program, which aims to improve clinical care for United States military members.

Qualifications for these fellowships:

  • Military experience in the Special Operations community.
  • Medical experience within the military, specifically in trauma, critical care and prolonged field care.
  • Career focus on advancing miliary medical education, training and development, research, and patient safety.
  • Retired or no longer active duty in the military.
  • Proficient with the use of computers and MS Office programs.
  • Must relocate to Arizona.

Mayo Clinic Military Medicine offers two annual fellowship programs supported by the Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Mayo Clinic Military Medicine Education Fellowship

This one-year fellowship in military medicine education provides participants with the skills necessary to conceive, design, develop, implement, manage and assess medical education programs. The fellowship includes experiential, didactic and formalized graduate education. The goal of this fellowship is to prepare the fellow to become an educator in military medicine and gain experience in the planning and execution of an educational course. Education Fellowship focus areas include:

  • Design, develop, implement, manage and assess medical education programs.
  • Design, develop and conduct simulation learning sessions, hands-on labs and didactic lectures.
  • Serve as faculty to train and educate military providers through hands-on instruction.
  • Participate in research and development to advance military medicine practices in austere environments.

Mayo Clinic Military Medicine Operations Fellowship

This one-year fellowship is a continuation of the Education Fellowship, providing advanced mentoring, leadership training and additional education. Operations Fellowship focus areas include:

  • Educational program management.
  • Faculty education and development.
  • External engagement and relationship cultivation.
  • Collaboration with external institutions, regional or local entities to develop new educational courses, products or material related to military medicine.
  • Mentor incoming Military Medicine Education fellow.
  • Assist with supply chain management.
  • Assist with research and grant-funded projects related to Mayo Clinic Military Medicine.
