Build Adding Images to T4 Media Library

Page Content

With the addition of CDN PXL, it is no longer necessary to resize images prior to adding them to the T4 Media Library for most content types. Images being added to a general content type must still be resized to the appropriate dimensions, however, all other image content types are now responsive and can automatically resize images to the needed dimensions.

Prior to uploading a new photo to the T4 Media Library to use on the college.mayo.edu website, please ensure the image fits our photo styles and standards.

Adding images to T4 Media Library

How to add images to the T4 Media Library

  1. Open T4.
  2. Select the Content drop-down menu in upper left corner.
  3. Click Media Library.
  4. Navigate to the program folder in the T4 Media Library. If the program doesn't already have a folder in the T4 Media Library, add one.
  5. Click Add Media (upper right corner).
  6. Drag and drop the image file into the gray box, or click on the gray box in order to choose image a file from your computer.
  7. If the image is a portrait of a person: the "name" should be their first and last name, credentials, and image specs. The description/alt text should also be the person's name and credentials.

For most other photos: the "Name" should include the MAM image # (if from MAM) or a short descriptive title. The "description/alt text" should be a descriptive sentence that can explain what is happening in the photo (keep both accessibility and SEO in mind when writing this description).
  8. Click Save changes.

Image content types

Once you have added the image to the T4 Media Library, you will need to use an image content type to add the image to a webpage. Learn more about image content types and how to use them:

  • Hero image. Use a hero image to give visitors a visual introduction to the content on the webpage. On the MCCMS website, we include a hero image at the top of the Overview page for every program website.
  • Inline media. Inline media is used to add an image at the top of pages other than the Overview page, as well as, on rare occasions, throughout a page if you're looking to break up long walls of text.
  • Exploding picture tile. Use the Exploding Picture Tiles content type (sparingly) to add a set of images that viewers can hover over to get expanded views of the images and an optional description.
  • Tiles. There are two Tile content types that can be used to add images in a single, double, or triple width tile:
    • Tile: Picture
    • Tile: Video
  • Fifty-Fifty. The Fifty Fifty content type is used to display prominent information on a page alongside an image, with the option to add a button or "arrow" links.
  • Profile cards. Profiles highlight individuals — faculty, staff, trainees, or alumni — and includes their photo, title, bio, and external profile link.
  • General content. On occassion, you may want to add images to a general content type. Images being added to a general content type must be resized to the appropriate dimensions prior to uploading them to the T4 Media Library. Examples include:
    • From the program director message (resize the image to 318x318)
    • Faculty and trainee profile grids/tables (resize the image to 125x150)
