Deleting Content Types

Want to remove a content type from your Studio Site? You'll first need to decide if you want it temporarily removed (but do not want the content deleted forever) or if you want to remove the content permanently.

How to make a content type inactive

Follow these instructions to temporarily remove content from your published Studio Site:

  1. Navigate to the page folder in the T4 Site Structure where the content type you'd like to remove is located.
  2. Select the "Actions" dropdown menu.
  3.  Select "Delete."
  4. In the pop-up window, confirm that you'd like to delete the content type.

After the next publishing cycle (about an hour), the content type will no longer be on the published "live" Studio Site; however, you will still be able to see the content type inside the page folder within the T4 Site Structure (it will have a red "inactive" flag in the status column).

How to reactivate a content type

If you later decide you'd like that content to be once again published on the live Studio Site, simply:

  1. Click into the content type and press the Save changes button to turn the content type to a pending status.
  2. Preview the page to ensure it looks the way you want it to.
  3. If it appears the way you'd like, navigate back to the content tab.
  4. On the content type you want to publish, select Approve from the Actions menu.

How to permanently delete a content type

  1. Follow the instructions to make the content type inactive.
  2. Click the Actions menu to the right of the content type you want to permanently delete.
  3. Select Move.
  4. From the Move content pop-up window, select the DELETE Bin.

Your inactive content type will be moved to the DELETE Bin folder. An ESDE team member permanently deletes the content in the DELETE Bin about once every 45 days. After that, it cannot be recovered. Do not add content to the DELETE Bin that you do not want to have permanently deleted.
