Mid-Career Clinician Education Research Award (MCERA)

The Mid-Career Clinician Education Research Award (MCERA) provides funding for Mayo Clinic physicians who are established education researchers and poised to expand their scholarly impact. The award is designed to protect time to engage in education research, mentor and teach others, and contribute to strengthening institutional capacity in health professions education scholarship.

For the purposes of the MCERA, “education research” refers to systematic inquiry focused on the education of health professionals—whether through studies of learners, educators, educational systems, or learning environments. Research focused on patient education is out of scope for the MCERA.

  • Hold the academic rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor at Mayo Clinic
  • Hold a clinical appointment as a Senior Associate Consultant or Consultant
  • Be at least five years post-training
  • Demonstrate an established record of research in health professions education
